Beginner's Guide to Quilting
By Quilters Companion

This magazine was released midway through 2010. Each of the 11 quilt designers were given a specific technique to incorporate into their quilt design. These techniques were then demonstrated in the 3 hour DVD which accompanied the magazine. Rotary cutting, applique, partial seams, curves, templates, hand piecing are all covered.
Shop owner Michelle Marvig presented the DVD and made Fassenating in Lime. Shop manager Kim Harris made What a Hoot. Our favourite teachers Katrina Hadjimicheal and Deb Louie also presented their quilts, Home Front and Flowers for Clare. This magazine is still current and retails for $12.95.

Fassenating in Lime

Shop owner Michelle Marvig was given the task of designing a quilt which would incorporate "Y" seams. An 8 pointed star was the logical choice, but to jazz it up she used Kaffe Fasset fabrics and strip pieced the sections which made up the diamonds. The 45 degree kaleidoscope ruler was used to cut the diamonds, to make it easier than cutting 45 degree strips.

What A Hoot

Shop manager Kim Harris was given the request for a partial seam project. When this fun owl fabric arrived , Kim knew she had found her fabric. The first seam around the owl block, is also the last to be completed. As the owl print was large , the centre squares were cut at 7 1/2in. Any picture print that fits this size could be substitiuted. This is a very quick quilt to make.
